Update to my desk redo

A few weeks ago I decided that I needed to redo my desk.  I wasn't ever (I do mean ever) using it as a desk, more like a big white shelf to pile junk on.  

I'm not too proud of this, but doesn't look better now?! And I'm very happy to say that I've been using it everyday now that I've made it into my vanity.  The "I can do anything with the right shoes" probably won't stay there but it's there for now.  

I decided to make the bulletin board look prettier by covering it in lace.  And I found out that not only am I a terrible cutter I can't measure either. My piece of lace didn't quite cover the bulletin board too well at first.  And I had a few bottles to use to decorate the top shelf.  I got a really pretty blue vase from hobby lobby and painted a wine bottle of my own.  

They are missing a little something I haven't figure out what it is yet.  

 My make is a little bit more organized now.

 I think my love sign is my favorite!  It was 50 % off at Hobby Lobby! (Yes!)

I also glittered all my makeup containers.  I'm a bit glitter obsessed, but that's okay.  I like them alot.  

Overall, I love what I did to my desk.

I hope you're having a great Friday!  This week has been a bit stressful, but with all good things.  So here's my High Five for Friday!
1.  This week was the last week of me teaching Chem 1203 lab!  Yay!  I had a great bunch of students, but that lab is not my favorite.  We celebrated today by having cupcakes.  Yes, I am the TA that brought my students cupcakes.  Hey I really just wanted an excuse to buy cupcakes from my bestfriend's bakery, Sweetcakes :)
2.  I gave my demo lecture for a teaching position this week!  It could have gone better, but I'm glad it's over and I didn't do too terrible! I'm ready to get better and start teaching my own lecture section in the fall!
3.  I learned how to use the grill!  Oh yes!
4.  I've made some super awesome crafting projects for my new vanity.  The are the best kind of craft projects one's that include glitter!
5.  Speaking of glitter, I personalized my garden hoe so that no one could confuse it for there.  I did paint glitter all over it.  Just because gardening is outside doesn't mean it doesn't need glitter.

It's that time again!  Friday!  My favorite day of the week, of course!  Today is extra special because I'm on my way to Raleigh to see my little brother graduate from NC State.  I am such a proud sister.  He's pretty much a genius!  I'm also excited because I got 2 new dresses to wear to his graduations.  Yes I thought I need 2 dresses.  One graduation is in the morning (at 8:30AM really?!) and then a departmental graduation in the evening. I think that totally justifies having two dresses.  So now it's time for my High Five for Friday!
1.  I finally finished one of my many pinterest crafts!  A polka dotted tiered planters.  

2.  I got a new camera this week, because I wanted to have a small on I could fit in my purse.  I love my nikon, but sometimes it's a bit too big.  My new camera has all sorts of fun functions.  My favorite is already the one where it only picks up a certain color.  Yay yellow!

3.  I got a new comforter for my bed at Target.  I had seen it several times and I couldn't resist it!  I need to go back and get the matching shams too.

4.  My new crafting project.  DIY screen printing.  I'm really excited about this.  

5.  I found some shoes I pinned on pinterest a few weeks ago on sale for 10 dollars.  How lucky did I get that they are my size!  I believe I was meant to have these shoes!  Okay maybe they aren't so practical, but they were only 10 dollars!

New planter

I saw this on pinterest a few weeks ago and just love it!  Isn't this just the cutest,  Polka dotted tiered planter! She has a great tutorial on how to make it.  I started mine several weeks ago and decided today was the day to finish mine.  I went with carolina blue and white for my colors.  I totally love the way it came out.  Here are a few of my pictures.

Friday Friday Friday!

I'm so glad it's Friday! Here's my High Five for Friday!

1.  Today is my last day of Friday TASL!  I know my students are going to be super excited it's our last workshop because that means they are almost done with chemistry!  I've had a great bunch of students this semester who really worked hard.  Yay Chemistry!
2.  Wedding crafts!  I took home some homework for my best friend's wedding!  Wrapping bottles in yard.  Hopefully getting creative this weekend.
3.  I'm getting my hair done today!  I need it my roots are crazy!  And Kandi is the best :)
4.  The garden weathered cold snap pretty well.  I'm hopeful we'll get some more veggies planted this weekend.
5.  The Rachael Ray 30 minute meal I cooked this week would have actually taken me 30 minutes (which never happens for me) if I hadn't had to make a second trip to the grocery store.  Spinach pasta with asparagus pesto. It was yummy and green!

Pinspired and Rewired

Since I love finding craft ideas on pinterest I wanted to participate in the Pinspired and rewired contest from the blogs over at Southern Lovely, Family Ever After, Ginger Snap Crafts, and The Gunny Sack

 

This was my inspiration! I think this is super cute and I'm always looking for a wreath that is skinny because there's not too much space between the door and the storm door.

Yellow Mums Sunshine Wreath

The sunshine wreath from Yellow Mums.  I think it's really cute and plus I have alot of sticks outside of my house.  So I went to finding sticks and came back inside with this

A big back of sticks.  While I was out there I thought maybe there's a way I could use some of the stupid gum balls that are covering the entire yard.  If you don't have gum trees consider yourself lucky!  These gums balls are the devil!  What I decided to do with them was to paint them and cover them in glitter and some how place those on the wreath instead of the clothe rosettes on the original wreath.  I also personalized the wreath with a P monogram.  

Here's my box of gum balls and my P waiting for paint and glitter! 

This is the base of my wreath I used a hot glue gun to glue the sticks around a piece of foam board.  I found this to be pretty difficult since I had outs of spaces that were empty.  

Here's the final product!  I'm really happy with how it turned out I think it's pretty cute!  

Fruit

Today's picture is fruit. For lunch I had pink lemonade sobert with Fruity pebbles and a few sweetart jelly beans. So tasty!
Best part it was free from yogurt 101 because I had a free card yay! Pink lemonade is so good!
I'm also doing a bit of special crafting for my BFFL's birthday! More on that later :)

I made some glitter lanterns for Rachel's bridal shower and put them on the ceiling.  They are still there and when I look up I can see them!  :)

Bedroom Make over-- Accent wall

A few weeks ago I was reading The Small Things Blog , pretty much my favorite blog ever!  If you're never read it I highly recommend it!  Anyways, Kate was doing a give away from the cutting edge stencils.  And I won!  $50 for whatever I wanted from cutting edge stencils.  They were great to work with too!  They sent my stencil so fast!

Recently I've been totally obsessed with the color combo of yellow and gray!  I just can't get enough of it. Since my room was already painted yellow I decided to do a gray stencil over it on just one wall.  All the walls would be too much!  Unfortunately we painted my room a really long time ago, back when I was in about 7th grade and of course I didn't know what color it was, or where the paint came from.  So I painted just one wall a fresh color of yellow (it didn't match perfect, but it's not totally noticeable now with the gray over it)

The new yellow is a bit brighter than the old yellow.  But the gray over it looks so cool.  

My advice to you, if you're going to stencil a wall with a stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils, is watch the videos before you start.  Don't just read the directions!  They make a lot more sense if you watch someone actually doing it before you try.  I found this out the hard way.  I messed up part of the wall because I didn't understand how the stencil was supposed to be overlapped.  But other than that small mistake doing the stenciling was very easy.  And it looks so cool.  

 I started in the middle of the wall so I could get a whole row of the stencil to build from.  Well that was the idea.  However it didn't work for me since I didn't know how the stencil was interlocking, but I figure it out.  :) and only had to repaint a small spot of the wall yellow again.  

The first stencil. I just taped it up to the wall and painted over it.  The directions from cutting edge give you a specific way to put the paint on the wall so you don't overload the roller and get paint up under the stencil.   

Then I got the hang of it and got a lot of the wall done.  I had to clean off the paint from the stencil a few times so that the edges didn't get real messy.  

 This is a picture after I finished the whole wall as I was laying on the floor.  I was a bit worn out after doing the whole wall.  

 Then came the hard part of moving the furniture back in place.  Thankfully my dad helped me this time.  I moved all the furniture before painting and it was HARD!

 Once I got my bed moved back in place.  The zebra blanket was not going with the wall too well so I found a gray blanket that looked better.  

I picked up a fleece blanket at target and I'm really please with the gray.  

I think that wall looks really great especially with my fancy light fixture from Ikea.
